There was a time, when something went wrong, or crazy, in a farm. A “disease” passed through, and everything changed. It had spread fast, but only through the animals. This “disease” was more of a madness, and it was about a characteristic that animals don’t have; it was about reasoning.
The owner of the farm made a lot of money with it. The animals began to wonder why they never had rewards for the hard work they did everyday, or just a little caring. They were used to do every kind of jobs, but no one cared about them. The owner was too busy to see this, but what he didn’t notice, is that he needed them to live. He gave them little amounts of food, or just enough to survive. The grass they ate was not of the best quality, and they didn’t have a shelter for rainy days and nights. They needed some love. But now there was this disease going on among them, so everything would change.
The animals had the ability to reason; not to talk with each other, but to use their minds rationally. How many things could they do now? One option, rebel against the owner, and show him what they felt. They would not do their chores and make the owner notice about them, and then, he would begin to care.
An example of what they did were the cows, who decided they didn’t want to be milked, so they began to fast. They got skinny, and they didn’t produce any more milk. Sheep began to tear their wool apart with anything they found. Hens didn´t eat so they couldn´t produce any eggs. Guardian dogs decided they would sleep all day instead of caring for the sheep.
After some time, the owner of the farm began to notice this, and he just couldn’t believe it. He called veterinarians to come see his animals. He had become preoccupied by this new problem. Suddenly, he had begun to care about them.
Many veterinarians came, and they all told the man the same: “Your animals are fine; I don’t see any problem with them.” Until the last one he called, told him: “It must be some kind of rebellion from their part. They are not sick and there is no plague, because any of the animals in the farms around this one are sick.” After this, the man began to wonder why his animals were rebelling against him. He found out, that he had never showed some kind of caring for them. He never went to visit them, and the men that worked with the animals didn’t treat them good.
So he reunited all the animals, and began to talk to them. He told them that even though they might not understand him, he felt he had to talk to them. He also told them that he had noticed that they wanted a change, and that he had realized that he never cared much about them. But he promised everything would change since now; he would build them a stall for rainy days and nights, and he would buy more food for them. He would buy dog food for dogs, and he would plant good grass for cows and sheep. But the most important thing, he said, is that I will love you all since now on. And so they lived happily ever after.
